Upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10

In June 2008, I took one of the best decision of my geeky/professional life. I got rid of Windows and installed Ubuntu! I was simply not able to bare Windows anymore as a desktop operating system. So I got myself a Dell Precision and the first thing I did when I got it from UPS was to reformat and install Ubuntu. I didn’t even boot it once with Windows. The simple thought of this still makes me smile :-) .

Pidgin no more working with MSN

This morning, when I fired up my laptop (Ubuntu Hardy Heron), Pidgin could not connect to my MSN account. The error:

Our protocol is not supported by the server

I have more then 200 contacts on MSN only, with 50 online at any given time. Although I have a strong preference for Skype, not everyone has a Skype account so MSN is still needed… So this morning, I could not connect to MSN Messenger. Googling a bit, I found this where it was suggested to upgrade to the latest Pidgin. I was on the impression that Ubuntu was doing it for me but it seems not, as found on the Pidgin site:

Starting a Web business ?

A friend of mine asked some advice in a forum I read. He wants to start a Web business and was seeking some hints. I shared my thoughts but just in case it might be useful to someone else, I’m putting them here as well!

Here are the few bits I have learned since the start of INBOX back in 2003.

First, find what you are really good at which make you happy. If you don’t have passion, you’ll fail. So find your passion, and create a business with it. It’s actually the topic of an excellent book I’m reading, Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk, which I recommend to anyone by the way.

Using TwitterFeed to integrate our blog with Twitter

TwitterFeedI have just integrated NotreVie.ca with TwitterFeed, a free service that sends updates from a Website to a Twitter account. It basically links to any RSS feed and send new items on a regular basis to Twitter.

Quick blog post to test MailChimp!

So, if I setup the campaign correctly on MailChimp, James and I should receive a newsletter Friday morning with this new post. All automatically, through the magic of MailChimp!

This product is absolutely awesome !!! And guess which Montreal based Web development company will soon be proposing this service to its client ?

Small hack for a quick Admin link in WordPress

I’ve been playing with WordPress a lot lately and I’m really starting to feel the Love ! I’m still customizing our this blog and needed to have a quick Admin link easily accessible to go in the admin panel of WordPress. Yes, I can always scroll down the right column and click on Site Admin link in the Meta block. But, I have to scroll, and I hate that ;-) . So I decided to hack in in. And I thought I’d share this. Oh and I’m sure thousand of people have done this already, but hey, the more the merrier, right ?
