ImpressCMS workshop at FSOSS 2010

August 20th, 2010 Marc-André 2 comments

Every year, I’m attending Seneca College’s annual Free Software and Open Source Symposium. This year will be no exception. However, I will now be attending as a speaker. Our workshop was accepted and it will be a real pleasure to talk about ImpressCMS and show how easy it is to install this CMS, install a few modules and, with the help of the imBuilding module, create a completely new module in a matter of minutes!

Audio problems with Skype on Ubuntu 9.10

January 8th, 2010 Marc-André No comments

As mentioned earlier, I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10, Karmic Koala. Except for Firefox being unpleasantly slow, everything was great. But when I got back to work two days ago, I started to make Skype calls again. As friends and colleagues may know, 95% of my discussions with clients, INBOX team members, partners and friends are done using Skype. Either by old fashioned typing chat of by audio chat. And the audio chats are not only done with other people having Skype on their computers! All the calls that I make to mobiles or land phones are made through Skype. The workaround in firefox is to go to “about:config”, just type it into the address bar and hit enter. Then change the value network.dns.disableIPv6 to TRUE.

Upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10

In June 2008, I took one of the best decision of my geeky/professional life. I got rid of Windows and installed Ubuntu! I was simply not able to bare Windows anymore as a desktop operating system. So I got myself a Dell Precision and the first thing I did when I got it from UPS was to reformat and install Ubuntu. I didn’t even boot it once with Windows. The simple thought of this still makes me smile :-) .

Pidgin no more working with MSN

December 10th, 2009 Marc-André No comments

This morning, when I fired up my laptop (Ubuntu Hardy Heron), Pidgin could not connect to my MSN account. The error:

Our protocol is not supported by the server

I have more then 200 contacts on MSN only, with 50 online at any given time. Although I have a strong preference for Skype, not everyone has a Skype account so MSN is still needed… So this morning, I could not connect to MSN Messenger. Googling a bit, I found this where it was suggested to upgrade to the latest Pidgin. I was on the impression that Ubuntu was doing it for me but it seems not, as found on the Pidgin site:
